A Short Article of What I think

Webster's definition of marriage:

"1 the state of being married, 2 a wedding, 3 a close union"

This is the literal definition of marriage. It doesn't say anywhere about it being limited to men and women.

I'm gonna go with the dictionary on this one.

I think that marriage is something that can only be decided between two people. It doesn't matter to me if they are white and black, red and green, woman and man, or woman and woman. It is a decision that only these two people can make, and no one else can make the decision whether they can or cannot for them. I think it is dominative, cruel, discriminatory, and unfair for the government to decide whether two people can be married just based on their sexual preference.

It is just one example of many where people strike out against something they fear and do not understand. And it makes me sick.

Marriage is a union between two people who love each other, and who is the government to think they can decide whether or not two people love each other?!

It all depends on what dictionary you use.

a.The legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife.
b.The state of being married; wedlock.
c. A common-law marriage.

And the dictionary is just an fucking book. Not to undermine the initial argument, but no one writes laws based on the dictionary. We write laws based on the American ideal of equality. Not since prohibition has the Constitution been amended to limit the freedoms of an American citizen.

Furthermore, if we want to find the cause of the decay of marriage, let's look at the straight people. In a country where gays cannot wed, nearly half of all marriages end in divorce. How can one even begin to propose that millions of marriages are dissolved solely because of homosexuality? Why are we not trying to ban affairs, alcohol, and work-related stress, because these all cause more divorces than homosexuality ever has? Is the typical American couple so insecure in their relationship they cannoth simply allow their fellow citizens to wed whomever they choose?

I find it hilarious that a country with such "high values" about marriage can put Britney's 24 hour marriage on the front page of every single magazine published for three weeks. When will we stop using the religious majority as an excuse for legalizing discrimination?

Why does marriage have to be between two people though? Why can't it be between fifteen or twenty people if they so desired?

My thoughts exactly, why can't it be? And then why can't I marry my dog if I want to, or my horse, or my father or sister or some inanimate object?

OK, same sex marriage is definitely not even on the same level as marrying tons of other people or family members or animals or objects, and I hate that people use it as an excuse for why we shouldn't have same sex marriage.

First, and the most simple, is marrying animals or objects. Not only do they have no legal standing, but marriage is consensual. Animals and objects would have no choice in a marriage. Plus, I would love to see someone try to get a car to sign legal marriage documents.

The idea of marrying family members is fairly simple as well. It can cause a genetic disease called hemophilia. That's bad.

The part about marrying lots of people is a bit more difficult, but not really. Basically being able to marry more than one person takes away individual rights. It makes people more like objects than people. It also spreads STDs more. This is why polygamy was made illegal.

See, there is a big difference. Same sex marriage is not as much of a completely new definition as we make it out to be. Its still a union between two people who are in love. The only difference is that the two people are the same sex. The definition of marriage has been changed so many times, yet it has never led to any of the outrageous things people predict will happen if same sex marriage is legalized. It used to be okay to marry in the family. Marriages were arranged. Polygamy was legal. Blacks weren't allowed to marry. Interracial marriage was illegal. Same sex marriage is just the next step.

Marriage is a commitment between two people who love each other and want to pledge this love only to each other. This is a beautiful joinng of two hearts and two souls .
Hearts and souls are on the inside, so race, sex, religion should have no bearing on it whatsoever.
