The life of a soldier boy
Isn't all smiles
Leaving so often
Why can't you stay for a while?
The soldier boy is brave
Excited to make a stand
Can't wait for his country
To take the upper hand

But the life of a soldier boy
Isn't all fun
Sometimes you feel scared
Even out in the sun
But the soldier boy is strong
And leaves us with a smile
He gives us a promise
He'll be back in a while

So he's off to Iraq
To fight with the Marines
It seems we'll never know
What's in his dreams
First stop in Kuwait
With Iraq soon ahead
Then one day, in a chapel
Soldier Boy's been found dead

The life of a soldier boy
Must not be a joy
With the strength of a man
In an eighteen year old boy
And the bagpipes they play
And then shots of the guns
This one dear soldier boy
Has affected everyone.

It has been about 3 weeks now, I have thought that I have started to get through this loss, but by just reading this it makes me cry again. Why/How did he go? The only ones who know won't tell. Thank you for writing this poem!!

You're welcome Katie.

I know what you mean. Tough, isn't it.

I already thought this was a very touching poem. Then I discovered it is a true story. This is the kind of poetry that NEEDS to be written. Thank you for writing it.

Anne~I liked your poem so much that I ended up mentioning it in my most recent blog. And I read and greatly enjoyed your blog about the bad hair day! . Very good writing! I tried to send you a long reply, but my ancient computer crashed on me just as I tried to send the message. Sigh. I need to get a new computer, huh? I promise to try and read another one of your blogs really soon--you're an awesome writer and poet. Maybe next time I'll be able to tell you that, and my computer won't crash on me.
